when september ends

Friday, September 30th, 2005

it’s exactly one month since my birthday! ahahZ..yes sept is over..soon it will be oct, then nov then dec then it’s 2006! ORD !

ahah on thurs nite saw my neighbour yongsheng and his father carrying cupboard..offered to help..felt so nice after tt! it’s sad that we are not as close as be4..in the past most of mi childhood days are spent with my neighbours..

yongsheng, yongzhi…then there’s yi xu and yiwei, who shifted house..yea and lost contact…then there;s also ah sheng, julian and huiwen who used to live on the 11th floor..also shifted house liao..ahhaZ….from what i know, yongsheng is going to be enlisted next yr june..ahahZ..julian bz with his As, ah sheng his Os, the rest i dunno liaoZ..feel so shi1 bai4 sia..and the irony is that we were so close back in the past loh! missed the good old days!! it would be great if we can all meet up again! ahahZ but not possible lah since everyone is bz with their own lives..

anyway these 2 daes went over to dwin and kev’s house..ahahZ..dwin was saying i go all ard singapore to use msn..duh..lol..was supposed to give tuition today too but sth cropped up..

it;s children;s day tml! ahahZ..makes me feel old sia..just saw on the news footages of children living in poverty..haii..wasn;t a veri gd sight..

saw dickson today at S11..ahahZ..he was accusing me of ‘pang seh’ him cos i chose to study at NUS..he said that we agreed to go overseas to study..ahahZ…but did i? lol..he was asking to reconsider my decision..i must say that most people really aspire to go overseas to study..maybe cos it;s prestigious? it’s a diff experience?..anyway i also have friends who haf overseas scholarships and yet deciding to study locally..ahahZ..hmm actually i dun mind studying locally or overseas..both has its pros and cons..but i really should count myself fortunate to be in this position to choose!!

anyway whether studying overseas or locally, i must say that it won’t be easy..uni stuff is so much harder than in A levels..kaoZ..

off to sleep liaoZ..all the best to Liverpool! :P

grassroot leaders

Saturday, September 24th, 2005

jeff and i was wondering how did this term "grassroot leaders" come about? ahha..y grass and y root? anyway the performance was quite good as CO sir says, 95% there..ahahZ..i feel rather uneasy with the press and the cameramen there..ahhaZ..esp i have to stand rather still after the whole performance for quite some time…SO TIRING!

hmm was thinking abt the issue of integrity lately…we are faced with so many situations in which we are tempted to do what we know is not right…and there are people who put aside integrity for whatever reason they think is more important… haii…y is this so..sigh.. and strangely some wouldn’t even hesitate to do the same thing again if they have to…AND even more strange is the fact that the people who believe in integrity lose out…

i saw this quote on some poster regarding integrity…"If u are standing upright, you dun have to worry if ur shadow is crooked"

Oh recently just borrowed a good book from the library..It’s titled "Intelligent Life in the Universe"..If offers a well detailed description on the historical and contemporary theories on issues related to origin of life , matter , universe etc..and it really explains how people make use of particular observations to make clever deductions..the mathematical basis behind it..Wow! :P It’s really a pleasure looking at the night sky!!

first wanna thank aaron for lending me his mini portable TV! ahah..was able to watch Real Betis v Liverpool in camp on wed morn @ 0235!! yay and Liverpool won! AND i also got to watch the Korean drama ‘Since I Met U’ in camp! hehe…really liked the show…it’s entertaining and not draggy…ahahZ..has a nice theme song too…at the end of the show i would call my mum to talk about the show..HAHA..*excited*

cleared leave until tues (i seem to have quite a lot of first yr leave)which means i ll get to watch quite a lot of TV..haahZ..My Date With A Vampire 3 is a corny show..hehe who got that vcd can lend me? i really wanna watch!

anyway had the chance to wear bullet-proof vest for the first time..wow..it’s looks cool but one thing for sure is that you are more likely to suffer from heat exhaustion! ahahZ..the shades also look cool! a pity that when i went to CIA the shades were not ready yet…

oh today is 15 sep..and yea..6 more months to ORD! ahahZ! oh and dunno why there’s suddenly so much commotion about the blog entries..bleah..really must be cautious of what u are writing sia..

a few questions i ve been pondering:

1. i have been observing car plates of vehicles for some time..taxis and vans along with some cars haf yellow car plates at the back and white ones at the front whereas most cars have the usual black and white ones both at the front and back. Why is that so? any significance behind it?

2. i still dunno y the best estimator for population variance is s^2 = n/(n-1)  * (sample variance) ….y the n/(n-1) factor??

for those who know pls enlighten me..ahah..

AHM!!!!!!! ahah..missed last yr’s AHM cos was at driving course..so this is my first time running 21km..the run started at 6am..here’s the route:

START PT @ road next to Fullerton hotel —–> Sheares Bridge —–> ECP exit at Fort Road —–> turning pt some distance into ECP —–> Tanjong Rhu ——-> Stadium Link ——> Kallang Park ——> Esplanade ——> END PT @ Padang

my timing kind of sux…2hr 26min…the champion is from kenya..kaoZ..1 hr 12 min…tt’s abt a speed of 18km/h…not only that…there are so many female runners out there who haf insane timings which are less than 1 hr 45 min!

well done zhiqin!

i feel very different now! ahahZ..yes obtained this badge called ICSB (infantry combat skills badge) . I totally respect this badge now cos I’ve been thru it..shall elaborate more!

Firstly there are some pre-requisites to meet. Among them are IPPT silver (or above) , and NavEx (navigation exercise) , and a 10-km run within 65 min. After u meet all these requirements, u are eligible to go for the 32km route march.

32km march itself is not tough i would say, but this one’s hell! i dun think it’s 32  km loh..they probably cheated and it felt like 40 km..haahZ..and the load we had to carry was insanely heavy..we were assessing the weight..hmm the SBO (with 6 dummy mags and bayonet) shd reach abt 8 kg..the field pack shd be abt 6 kg..and my beloved SAR rifle at about 4kg..so tt’s abt 18kg?!? i m not too sure abt the weight but it really seems to be that case!

Start point was at SISPEC. used camo cream for the first time since NDP last year! ahah i look funny with a greeny face! the fall out rate was high…the first 8 km was a really fast march and quite a lot of people cun take it..It’s quite demoralising to walk in the dark not knowing when it will end..ahahZ..I was fortunate to have the company of the beautiful night sky and yes saw my fav constellation Orion (i can only recog tt). everyone was having problems with abrasion and blisters but i felt tt the mosquitoes were more irritating! the first 16 km was on the reclaimed part of Tekong so yea it;’s infested with mosquitoes!

by that time 3 out of 14 of us fall out..sighz..but the rest of us made it to the 24 km mark to do water crossing..ahhaZ..we took a pic there..shd be a memorable one..it’s refreshing taking a swim in the river but my rifle doesn’t like to get wet cos it says it will rust..haizz..and it;s so easy to get abrasion problems when u are soaked wet..the last 8 km we dragged our feet back to BMTC then to range and finally back to SISPEC!

went thru a simple parade where they presented the badges..ahahZ..we were so tired that when they punched the badge onto our chests some of us almost fell backwards! lol! but i would say that i really felt proud to earn that badge..it’s not as if anyone would be up to the mark cos it really require a lot of mental strength. here;s a look at the badge!!

Icsb

anyway to all the people in the platoon who survived the march i wanna say tt i always rem u people for being with me thruout this march! it was tough but satisfying..i really felt touched by the determination and perseverance u guys showed, even when all sorts of nasty problems like abrasion and blisters came up..lt ben, sgt kenny, li heng, christopher, eldwin, chin hock, desmond, steve, jeff, joey, we did it!

oh lastly there’s a realli nice korean drama being shown on channel U on weekdays 6pm..it’s called Since I Met U..addicted liao but sad tt i can onli watch it during off days..:( ahhaZ..the female lead is veri pretty…

I FEEL GREAT!

a most memorable 20th birthday!

well done zhiqin!
